HP instructions seem to indicate that Windows is not required to update the BIOS. The instructions state that using another Windows machine a USB flash drive can be created using the download of the newer firmware. When running the program sp155579.exe no option is offered on the secondary Windows installation to make a drive. I am hoping this laptop will not continue to disapoint.

Hi @me456789,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We're sorry to hear about the confusion and inconvenience caused while attempting to update the BIOS for your HP laptop.

HP’s instructions do indicate that it is possible to create a BIOS recovery USB flash drive using another Windows machine. However, in some cases—such as with the sp155579.exe file—the option to create recovery media may not be presented automatically, depending on the system compatibility or how the installer is packaged.

We apologize for the lack of clarity in the instructions and for any frustration this has caused. Sharing the HP website, this has complete step-by-step instructions to follow and let me know if this helps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
