I have an old HP laptop with Windows 8 that I bought in 2013. I couldn’t remember my login password so it prompted me to change my Microsoft account password, which I did successfully. When entering in my new Microsoft password on my laptop, it still indicates that the password is incorrect, however, I’m able to sign into my Microsoft account via browser.

Can anyone please help me? My laptop is connected to WiFi and I’ve tried restarting it multiple times.

Hi @DK1235,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Product. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist better:

  • May I have the exact name of the model of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

Could you please elaborate in detail?

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello- I have a HP Pavilion Notebook PC model number g6-2330dx.

I would like to access certain files on this laptop but I cannot get past the sign in screen to unlock my laptop. Every time when inputting my correct Microsoft password, I get a “That password is incorrect. Make sure you’re using the password for your Microsoft account. You can always reset it at account.live.com/password/reset”

Hi @DK1235,

Thank you for the reply

I understand you're having trouble logging into your old HP Pavilion Notebook PC with Windows 8, despite successfully changing your Microsoft account password. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Verify Password

Ensure that you're entering the new password correctly:

  • Check for Caps Lock or Num Lock being enabled.
  • Ensure that you're entering the password in the correct case (uppercase vs. lowercase).

2. Check Keyboard Layout

Sometimes, the keyboard layout might be different from what you're used to:

  • Click on the language icon (usually at the bottom-right of the screen) on the login screen and make sure the correct keyboard layout is selected.

3. Use On-Screen Keyboard

Try using the On-Screen Keyboard to input your password:

  • On the login screen, click on the Ease of Access icon (bottom-right) and select On-Screen Keyboard.

4. Reset Microsoft Account Password

If you're still having trouble, try resetting your Microsoft account password again:

  1. Go to account.live.com/password/reset.
  2. Follow the instructions to reset your password.
  3. Once you’ve reset it, make sure to use the new password to log in.

5. Use a Local Account (if available)

If you previously set up a local account on the laptop:

  • On the login screen, look for an option to switch to a local account if that option is available.

6. Safe Mode

Try booting into Safe Mode to see if you can log in with the new password:

  1. Restart your laptop and press F8 or Shift + F8 repeatedly as it starts up.
  2. Choose Safe Mode with Networking.
  3. Try logging in with your Microsoft account.

7. Access Using Another Account

If you have another administrator account on the laptop, log in with that account and reset the password for your Microsoft account.

8. System Restore

As a last resort, you can try a System Restore to a point where you were able to log in:

  1. Restart your laptop and press F8 or Shift + F8 repeatedly as it starts up.
  2. Select Repair your computer > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
