Got an old dv6700. Spent some mon to fix broken video chip. Set a new battery. But there is red cross on battery icon. It seems to be like the BIOS problem but when i try to find some BIOS upgrade HP official says - your OS is not in list. Any solutions? Thanks.

Hello, you can try to make an hardware reset. For this you need to unplug your AC adapter, and your PC's battery if removable, and press during 30 seconds Power button with any power.
After replug PC's battery and AC adapter and tell me color of the LED alongside AC connector (on your PC).

Hi, @st_ooped
What is the product number of your notebook?
It is on the same label as the serial number.
Please do not post the serial number.
If your notebook is one of those with an AMD processor, you can only update the BIOS in XP or Vista.
Updating the BIOS in W7 will render your PC useless.
Once you let me know the product number of the PC, I will give you the latest BIOS update for it.
HP retired support for that model series since it is over 10 years old, which is why you can't find any drivers for it.

What is original Windows version of your PC?? You can see this if you have a sticker next to your trackpad, or a software licence (needed to install Windows) on the bootom on your PC.

If you don't have install a lot of programs you can reinstall Vista if you want to try the BIOS upgrade.. You can't install XP if you don't have keygen.

Hi:
Here are the links you need for the final BIOS release...
Info file:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52001-52500/sp52477.html
Exe File:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52001-52500/sp52477.exe
And yes, if you don't want to turn your PC into a paperweight, you will have to install XP or Vista to update the BIOS.
The previous BIOS update fixed some kind of issue with the battery, but not that it is completely missing...

Since BIOS updates are cumulative, this fix would be included in sp52477.
