Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I recently bought brand new HP Omen 16.

While gaming, sometime I get BSOD, sometimes it just makes a sound like trrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and gets stuck and I have to force shutdown using the power button! What could be the reason?

I can hardly play any game more than one hour, single player, story games are okay but multiplayer games are very sad ._.

My system:
HP Omen 16-b0xxx

Core i7 11800H @ 2.30GHZz

16GB RAM (two sticks 8GB Samsung 3200MHz)

512gb Intel Optane SSD

4tb SSD

RTX3060 Laptop GPU

Drivers are updated already from HP Support Center

Hi @Potato110,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your Omen 16 laptop is experiencing issues like BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) and freezes while playing games, there could be several potential reasons behind these problems. Here are some common issues and their possible solutions.

  • Overheating: Gaming laptops tend to generate a lot of heat, and if the temperature inside the laptop rises too high, it can lead to performance issues or even crashes. Make sure your laptop is properly ventilated, and consider using a cooling pad to help dissipate heat.
  • Outdated or Corrupted Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up-to-date. Outdated or corrupted drivers can lead to compatibility issues and crashes. Visit the manufacturer's website to download and install the latest graphics drivers for your GPU.
  • Hardware Issues: It's possible that there may be hardware problems causing these crashes. This could be related to the GPU, RAM, or even the hard drive. You might want to run diagnostics on your laptop's hardware to check for issues.
  • Software Conflicts: Sometimes, certain software or background applications can conflict with your game and cause crashes. Make sure to close unnecessary background applications while gaming, and consider running games in a clean boot environment to rule out software conflicts.
  • Memory Issues: Insufficient RAM or faulty RAM modules can lead to game crashes and BSODs. Ensure your laptop has enough RAM for the games you are playing, and consider running a memory diagnostic test to check for RAM issues.
  • Power Management Settings: Check your laptop's power management settings to ensure that it's not trying to conserve power during gaming, which could cause performance issues. You can set the power plan to "High Performance" while gaming.
  • BIOS Update: An outdated BIOS can sometimes cause compatibility issues. Check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop and install it if necessary.
  • Malware and Virus Scan: Run a full system scan with a reputable antivirus program to rule out the possibility of malware or viruses causing system instability.
  • File System Issues: Check for file system errors on your hard drive by running the Windows built-in utility called "Check Disk" or "chkdsk."
  • Excessive Background Processes: Ensure that there are no unnecessary background processes consuming system resources while gaming.
  • Game-Specific Issues: Sometimes, the problem may be related to a specific game. Make sure the game is updated to the latest version and check online forums or communities for any known issues and potential solutions related to the game you are playing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
