Experienced screen glitches/artifacting - windows update identified new driverfor graphics which started to install and then caused machine to freeze with bluescreen and siezeure, stopped at this point and left machine for half hour and nothing happend, powered off and left it for a few days to seek advise.
Took it to a computer technician/shop for testing/help and initial diagnosis was suggested graphics chip fault?, decided that I would try and find help here what to do.
Restarted machine after getting it back (two weeks) which went into recovery screen multiple times and non of options I chose helped. After restarting it a number of times and chose advanced? reinstalled OS wiping all info.
Machine actually worked, rebooted and went through OS install to windows 11 sucessfully. Went to windows update and went through procedure to update all - machine then failed again and would not do anything - screen appeared saying that the machine had no bios? and with a QR code to support online. Followed this until found suggestion to create USB with bios on and restart machine following the instructions shown during the USB creation process
All that happend was a black screen and fans came on full for about a minute then stopped, machine restarted and the same thing with fans blowing on full. Tried this for several minutes but nothing changed, the only thing I observed was that the screen appeard to be slightly backlight and a static horizontal cursor appeared in top left of screen, then seemed to get a bit small but did not flash, staying static.
I removed the USB after holding down power key after it had gone through its full fan blow episodes and tried again - The only thing that happend was a notification appeared saying that the machine had no bios and to go through the routine of creating a rescue bios USB. I'm stuck - the machine was bought in September 2023 and has to this point been superb. Any help very welcome as I do not know what to do or where to go with getting it back to normal.
Thank you.

@Gareth_R, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Omen 16!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
From the screen glitches to the BIOS update failure and the eerie silence with just the fans roaring — it's clear you've been through a tough series of events.
Since your system now shows signs of a corrupted or missing BIOS (especially with the QR code and no BIOS found message), the static cursor and black screen suggest it's stuck at a pre-boot state. You’ve already done a lot, and I appreciate your patience. Let’s try a few focused steps:
Try the BIOS Crisis Recovery (using USB):
Prepare the USB Drive Again (just to be sure):
Use another PC, visit HP BIOS Recovery.
Download the BIOS specific to your Omen 16 model.
Use the HP BIOS Update and Recovery utility to create the recovery USB.
Insert the USB into the affected Omen.
With the laptop powered off:
Hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
Keep holding Windows + B for around 10 seconds, then release.
You should hear the fans spin up again; if recovery is successful, you might see the BIOS screen reappear.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi and thank you for responding to me.
I have purchased a fresh 4GB USB drive and done as you suggested - The Bios that came up with my serial number is Version F.29, SoftPaq NUMBER sp158195, EFFECTIVE DATE 04/18/2025. I used another HP computerrunning Windows 11 to format, download and create the USB.
Followed to the letter your instructions.
Approx 15 seconds after letting go windows + B combination fans started on full and brief text appeard for three seconds, had to wait approx 2 1/2 minutes for machine to stop (fans ceased) and then full fans again - this time the text on screen lasted the full 2 1/2 minutes of full fan on episode then shut off fans, wait approx 15-20 seconds and fans on full again - this same process has been going on for 30 minutes so far unchanged as I am replying to you, so assuming procedure was a fail?
The text on screen reads:
"While updating BIOS, the system may restart for several times and the black screen may remain for a few minutes."
"Please do not remove power source or press power key during BIOS update process"
The second line is in red on screen and there appears to be a red cursor (arrow) below this line but I am unable to move or interact with it.
QR code in bottom right of screen.
kind regards.

@Gareth_R, welcome back — and thank you for the detailed update.
You've done everything right so far, and I can only imagine how frustrating it must feel watching that screen and fan cycle repeat with no sign of progress. You're incredibly patient, and that helps a lot in situations like this.
From what you've described — the repeating fan bursts, static red warning, and no movement past the BIOS update screen — it sounds like the recovery process is stuck in a loop and hasn’t completed successfully.
Let’s try this one variation:
1. Power Drain First:
Unplug the power adapter.
Press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds.
Then, reconnect power (leave the battery in if it’s non-removable).
2. Try BIOS Recovery Again, But with a Twist:
Insert the USB.
This time, try Windows + V (instead of Windows + B), then hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
Keep holding Windows + V for 10–15 seconds, then release.
Watch closely — even a flicker or fan change is a sign it's trying to recover.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thank you once again for trying to help.
I have followed your instructions to the letter and have to report that nothing at all happened.
The only observable events were when pressing the power button the power light came on, a small brief sound of fans and then nothing. No attempt to start or any activity at all. No flickering of screen (done in a dark room) or evidence of backlight. The power button led remained lit.

@Gareth_R, Thanks again for holding on through this — you're doing a great job, even if the machine isn’t cooperating right now. Let’s try just a bit more before considering service.
Try a different display output:
If you have access to an external monitor, connect via HDMI and restart — sometimes a corrupted BIOS might default to external display.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thank you once again for the continued support, it is very much appreciated.
Following your most recent suggestions I borrowed and tried two different but working external monitors with two different HDMI cables. I connected up the laptop and monitor and went through the list of suggestions you previously gave, in the order you gave to me.
The external monitors did not display at any point and the only change was when I powered off the laptop, the external screen went blank. A 'no signal' message as text was on the monitor when I turned it on - nothing at all appeard on the laptop screen.
The laptop stayed as it was previously during all the other attemps to restart and install the BIOS. Nothing changed as a result of connecting to an external HDMI monitor.
Thank you once again for all your kind help and support.
