OMEN by HP 17-cb0261ng
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, yesterday as of writing this, my OMEN model 17 laptop has suddenly stopped booting up. Before it all happened, I was playing a game called Team Fortress 2 and the laptop ran fine as always, once the ingame map change begun, my whole laptop froze and didn't respond to any input at all. I've tried alt tabbing out, changing desktop, moving my mouse around yet it responded to nothing. After the laptop stayed frozen for roughly 10 minutes with no change on the display, I decided to forcefully shut it down via the power button. After I did that, I tried booting it up again yet the displayed stayed pitch black and hasn't changed, the power button was lit up and the fans ran at full speed yet my keyboard had no lighting as well as my mouse. I tried running it w/o the charger but the only thing that changed was the fans turning on and off. Now whenever I try to boot it up it keeps staying at a black screen, I've tried booting into BIOS or recovery mode and unless I did it wrong, it hasn't worked at all. I kept the laptop off the charger overnight in case that was the issue yet it didn't resolve the problem. I haven't yet tried doing anything internally because I'm not tech savvy and more afraid to break it. The system always ran fine with no issues besides minor overheating here and there and I haven't had a similar issue before. It all was very spontaneous and I'm afraid it might be broken. I'd greatly appreciate any help.

Thank you

Update, I've attempted to connect it to my TV via cable and the only result I got was "no signal", upon trying it with my sisters laptop, the display carried over fine. I've stumbled across no potential solutions.

HI @Lugiosu,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your laptop won’t boot and you’re unsure of the problem. Given the symptoms you described—black screen, full-speed fans, and non-responsive keyboard and mouse—there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Unplug any connected peripherals (mouse, keyboard, external drives, etc.).
  • Disconnect the power adapter.
  • If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out. If not, skip this step.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reinsert the battery (if you removed it), reconnect the power adapter, and try turning on the laptop.

2. Test with Minimal Hardware

  • Make sure only essential hardware is connected.
  • Attempt to boot the laptop with just the power adapter connected.

3. Check External Display:

  • Use an HDMI cable to connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV.
  • Press Fn + F4 or Fn + F5 (or the appropriate key combination for your laptop) to switch between internal and external displays.

4. Check for Beep Codes or LED Blinks

  • If your laptop emits beep codes, note the pattern. Beep codes can indicate specific hardware issues. Consult your laptop's manual for the meaning of the beep codes.
  • Look for any LED blink patterns or colors that might indicate errors. Refer to your laptop’s manual for LED code meanings.

5. Reseat Internal Components

If you're comfortable opening your laptop, you can try reseating some internal components. Note that this should only be done if you're confident in your ability to handle delicate electronics::

  • Ensure the laptop is fully powered down and unplugged.
  • Remove screws securing the back panel. Refer to your laptop’s service manual for guidance.
  • Carefully remove and reinsert the RAM modules and any storage drives (SSD/HDD). Ensure they are securely connected.
  • Put the back panel back on, reconnect the power, and try booting the laptop.

6. Try BIOS/UEFI Recovery

  • Restart the laptop and press the appropriate key (usually Esc, F2, F10, or Delete) to enter BIOS/UEFI settings.
  • If you can access BIOS/UEFI, check for any settings related to boot or hardware configuration. Look for an option to reset BIOS to default settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Same problem here.

Installed Nvidia driver update under W11.

Then W11 mentioned there is a firmware update for HP.

Tried to install, but notebook just switches the red light on. Afterwards screen illumination and fans are switching on. Nothing more.

Also another monitor is nit working.

Tried BIOS restore functiion. Function is working, restores BIOS.

Same problem like before.

Tried also hard reset, removing battery, CMOS Reset, removing and reassembling of RAM and SSDs.

Nothing works.

System was running fine before...
