My laptop will not charge while it is turned on or asleep. I don't know why this is happening but I can't keep turning off my laptop to charge it.

Please help.

Hi @p01ntbl4nc,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand how inconvenient this must be, especially when your laptop only charges while it is completely turned off.

To help identify the cause, could you please confirm a few details?

  • What is the exact model of your HP OmniBook?
  • Are you using the original HP charger supplied with the laptop?
  • When the laptop is turned on or in sleep mode, does the charging light turn off, or does it remain illuminated while the battery percentage does not increase?
  • Does Windows display "Plugged in, not charging," or does it not detect the charger at all?
  • Did this issue start recently, or has it happened since you purchased the laptop?

In the meantime, please check whether the charger and charging port are securely connected. Also, if available, run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI > Power > AC Adapter Test to check the adapter.

Please share the details above so we can narrow down whether this is related to the charger, battery, power management, or charging hardware.

Best regards,
Kuroi_Kenshi
