My One-drive is not working and when I try to sign in to One-drive so that I can reset it back to running as normal or re-set up One-drive all I get is an error pop-up that says signing in to One-drive has been canceled, and it never finishes signing in. I have tried to do a simple rest of the One-drive program with the command: pasted below.

 

%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset, but all I get is this message.

Windows cannot find C:\USER\ME345\AppData\local\Microsoft\DriveOne.exe make sure you have typed the name correctly and try again.

 

Again If I try to reset up OneDrive in the Windows security program, and it asks me to sign in to one drive to set things up, all I get is a pop-up that says signing in to One-drive has been canceled, and it never finishes signing in

 

Can I reset HPs full Windows 11 installation without deleting any important information on my laptop. Resetting everything just seems like it is all that I can do since the above reset command does not work, Any ideas anyone.

 

I do not want to delete any programs or files.

1. Verify OneDrive Installation Path

The error message suggests OneDrive may not be installed correctly or its executable is missing. Let’s confirm:

  • Open File Explorer and navigate to:
    C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive
  • If the folder is missing or empty, OneDrive may need a full reinstall.

 

2. Reinstall OneDrive Safely

You can reinstall OneDrive without deleting any personal files or programs:

  • Download the latest OneDrive installer directly from Microsoft:
    Download OneDrive for Windows
  • Run the installer and follow the prompts.
  • After installation, restart your PC and try signing in again.

 

3. Check Windows Credentials and Permissions

  • Open Settings > Accounts > Email & Accounts
  • Ensure your Microsoft account is listed and active.
  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > App Permissions > OneDrive
    • Confirm OneDrive has permission to run in the background.

 

4. Clear OneDrive Cache (Optional but Safe)

If reinstalling doesn’t help, you can clear OneDrive’s cached credentials:

  • Open Credential Manager (search from Start)
  • Go to Windows Credentials
  • Remove any entries related to OneDrive Cached Credentials
  • Restart and try signing in again

 

If OneDrive still won’t sign in:

  • Try creating a new local user account and test OneDrive there. This helps isolate whether the issue is account-specific.
  • Check for group policy restrictions if this is a managed device (e.g., work laptop).

I thought that your suggestion fixed it, but when I tried to re-install OneDrive I got a popup saying a newer version of OneDrive is already installed, and you must first uninstall OneDrive., if I do so will I lose all my backups and files.

To clarify: uninstalling OneDrive from your PC will not delete your cloud backups or files stored in OneDrive. Your data remains safe in the cloud, tied to your Microsoft account.
