Second hand notebook needs factory reset.

Hi   @odexut

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out .

I understand that you have purchased a second-hand HP notebook and are only able to access it through Guest Mode. I can certainly see how this would be concerning, especially if you're trying to set up the device for your own use.

To assist you further, could you kindly provide the exact model number of your HP notebook and let us know what happens when you attempt to sign in or perform a factory reset?

In the meantime, if the previous owner's account is still linked to the device, a factory reset may require additional steps depending on the operating system installed. Kindly let us know:

  • What operating system is installed (Windows, ChromeOS, etc.)?
  • Are you able to access the Settings menu?
  • Do you receive any error messages when attempting a reset?
  • Was the notebook reset by the seller before it was handed over to you?

Once we have these details, we'll be happy to guide you through the appropriate reset process.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
