My laptop is only 4 moths old.  I contacted HP with problem of search not working.  They kept me online for over an hour trying to correct issue only to say "you need a new OS.  I don't know how to resolve this.

Search is a feature built into the OS or supplied by applications such as Chrome, Edge or Firefox to name a few browsers that have search engines.

 

I noticed you mentioned windows 32.  I think you are using the 64 bit version of windows.  Is that correct?

 

 If windows is corrupted you can

1 - try a repair of windows using SFC.  You may have done this already.

2 - reset windows and select the option to preserver files.  This re-installs windows and you should specify that you want to keep your personal files.

3 - do a factory restore if cloud software is available.  Restore PC to original setup but you lose all your personal files.  Do a backup first.

 

SFC and DISM are both tools that scan and repair corrupted system files. However, SFC uses a cached version of the files, while DISM uses the internet to download and fix the files.
Try the SFC first and if it gives a message that it cannot fix the problem then try the DISM tool.

Windows reset Read this thoroughly before doing a reset

Here is how to do the reset.

 

HP is removing cloud recovery for system over 5 years old.
The actual wording is a limited time after the warranty expires
You may want to get a copy of the cloud recovery before it is too late.
Cloud recovery provides all the custom HP drivers.
Go to the below site and enter your product ID including the 3 characters after the # character
If you have cloud recovery you can restore your system using a 32gb flash.
It may take an hour or more to create the recovery USB.
