I was attempting to replace the SATA C Drive and was convinced by the SSD manufacturer that a PCIe M.2 SSD would be a better way to go, and I could remove the original drive (which I suspected was having a heat related issue).  I asked if they were sure I could replace the Optane card, since the only place to install this M.2 SSD was in the D Drive (which only had a Recovery folder on it).

 

My mistake was that I believed the D Drive was indeed just for Recovery, not realizing that it had to OS on it.  I also was not aware of a procedure that I should have done in the Bios to disable the System Acceleration - (Link to Intel site re: this How to Disable System Acceleration with Intel® Optane™... )

 

BTW - I had attempted to do a back up of the complete system prior to installing the M.2 SSD, but the application would not run and kept telling me I needed to restart my computer (did several times, and removed the app and rebooted, then reinstalled and rebooted) but could not get past that error.  The website said that this utility would only work on that companies drives, and one of there videos showed that you had to install the drive in order to run the software, so I made the mistake of installing it, and got an immediate "Boot Device not Found (3F0)".

 

I reinstalled the Optane SSD and continued to get that same error.  I found a document on the HP site  re: that error (HP Consumer Notebook PCs - Boot Device Not Found (3F0) or Automatic Repair Errors | HP® Customer Sup...) and found no issue with the SATA C Drive and the Optane SSD passed the Smart Test but could not run the Quick or Long DST test

BTW - The current Bios reported during that test is Version 1.23.0.0  The Main Screen of the Bios shows Bios Version F.67 and the Vendor is Insyde.

 

Continuing on in the HP document, it says to do the following:

Procedure 3. Determine if Optane memory is installed and working normally.
  1. Start or restart the computer.
  2. Press F10 repeatedly during startup to enter the BIOS setup utility.
  3. Look for the Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology option; navigate to:
    System Configuration > UEFI HII Configuration > Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology and you should see the following screen:

So that's definately different than I expected.  I went to the next screen and and thios is the report:

Incompatible seems to be a problem.  I have been unable to do Procedure 4 and I am fearful that I will not be able to get the Optane SSD to work and will need to do a clean install of Windows, but I am hoping someone can pull off a miracle and help me avoid losing the original OS.
