Yesterday while i was using my hp laptop, it went off after displaying low battery. So i went out to get it charged, but while charging indicator noticed that the orange light was blinking, which i think is quite unusual and the laptop won't turn on after I pressed the power button severally.

Hello @Rahma_Enitan93, and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand your HP notebook is showing a blinking orange charging light and won’t power on after the battery drained. Let’s walk through some steps to help resolve this.

What the Blinking Orange Light Means

A blinking orange (amber) light typically indicates a battery charging issue, often due to:

  • Critically low battery
  • Faulty charger or battery
  • Power delivery issues
  • Firmware or hardware fault

Try These Steps

Basic Power Reset

This helps clear any residual charge or firmware lock-up:

  • Unplug the charger.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
  • Plug the charger back in and try turning the laptop on.

Check the Charger and Port

  • Ensure the charger is genuine HP and rated for your model.
  • Try a different wall outlet.
  • Inspect the charging port for dust or damage.

Hard Reset with Battery (if removable)

If your model has a removable battery:

  • Remove the battery and charger.
  • Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
  • Reinsert the battery, plug in the charger, and power on.

Try a Key Combo (for some HP models)

Some HP laptops respond to this:

  • With the charger connected, press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release all keys and wait to see if the BIOS recovery screen appears.

Inspect Battery Health (if it turns on later)

If the laptop powers on eventually, check battery status:

  • Go to HP PC Hardware Diagnostics > Battery Test

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
