I just swapped my failing HDD with a new SSD. I attempted a fresh installation of Windows 8.1 with a USB recovery stick I created in Windows. I followed the following process:
F9>Boot from USB>troubleshoot>reset pc>create partitions.
The reset was successful, but after an attempt for recovery, restoration failed with above error. The log showed failed for 802.11 WLAN adapter. From online forums, I tried changing the date to 2012, but the date kept resetting on boot to 2013. I believe it might be the CMOS battery. Please let me know your suggestions.
Edit: I ran memory and hard drive check using F2, and both passed. SSD size is same as the HDD, 500GB.

Fixed it by downloading Windows 8.1 ISO (Single Language for me), burning it to USB, turning off secure boot, turning on legacy boot, and then reinstalling the OS. I had a SATA-to-USB adapter, which I used to access Ubuntu in my failing HDD, which I used to create the bootable USB.
