LAP TOP died. Was plugged in and charged. It is under warranty, but HP wants me to retrieve the data prior to sending it to them.

I'm  trying to recover the data. HP told me to go to Best Buy, they advised I can't retrieve the data because it has an I5 processor. DID I REALLY JUST LOSE ALL MY DATA???

Hi @miccifuel ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Losing power and being unable to turn on your laptop can be concerning, but it doesn't necessarily mean you've lost all your data. Here are a few steps you can try to recover your data:

Check Power Supply and Connections:

  • Ensure that the power adapter and the power outlet are working. Try using a different power outlet and power cable to rule out any issues with the power supply.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the laptop from the power source.
  • Remove the battery (if possible) or hold the power button down for about 15-20 seconds to perform a hard reset.
  • Reconnect the power supply and try turning on the laptop.

Check for External Display:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor to see if the issue is with the laptop screen. If you can see anything on the external display, the problem might be related to the laptop's display.

Try Safe Mode:

  • If your laptop turns on but doesn't boot into Windows, try booting into Safe Mode. This can help troubleshoot software-related issues.

Data Recovery Tools:

  • If you have access to another computer, you can remove the hard drive from your laptop and connect it to the other computer using a USB-to-SATA adapter. This way, you may be able to access your files and copy them to another storage device.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
