Hello, my pc has been stuck on the starting screen for weeks now and it couldn't get pass the "restarting/diagnosing" part too. I tried to hard reset it a few times and nothing was working. The blue screen shows up with "automatic repair failed" and "bad system info". Prior to this situation, it was working just fine but then a family member left it on during a blackout for a whole day. When the electricity came back on, that's where it started to load and restart. I don't wanna lose the files and programs in my pc, what should I do about this??

Hi @Heaths,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your computer is facing some serious issues, possibly related to the prolonged power outage. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the problem without losing your files:
Safe Mode:
- Try booting your computer in Safe Mode. This mode starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services, which might help you identify and fix the issue.
- To access Safe Mode, restart your computer and press the F8 key repeatedly before the Windows logo appears. If that doesn't work, you might need to use a Windows installation or recovery media.
System Restore:
- If your computer was working fine before the power outage, you can try using System Restore to revert your system files to a previous point in time.
- Boot into Safe Mode and access System Restore from the Advanced Startup Options. Choose a restore point from a date before the power outage.
Windows Startup Repair:
- Use the Windows installation or recovery media to boot into the Windows Recovery Environment.
- Select "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Startup Repair." This will attempt to fix any issues preventing Windows from starting.
Check Disk Utility:
- Use the Command Prompt from the Advanced Startup Options and run the following command to check for and fix disk errors: Replace C: with the drive letter where Windows is installed.
- chkdsk /f C:
SFC (System File Checker):
- In the Command Prompt, run the following command to scan and repair corrupted system files:
- sfc /scannow
Backup Your Data:
- If the above steps don't resolve the issue, it's crucial to back up your important files before attempting more invasive solutions.
- You can remove the hard drive from your PC and connect it to another computer using an external enclosure or adapter to copy your files.
Reinstall Windows:
- If all else fails, you might need to reinstall Windows. This will wipe your system drive, so it's essential to have a backup of your important files.
- You can perform a clean install or use the "Reset this PC" option from the Windows installation media.
You may use HP cloud recovery tool: Click Here
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
