Hi @RobTheBrain

See if this works...download and save, but do not run this driver.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56816.exe

Download and install this free file utility.  The 2nd file at the top of the page is for 64 bit.

https://www.7-zip.org/

After you install 7-Zip, right click on the driver you saved.

Select 7-zip from the menu.

Have 7-Zip extract to: and let it extract the file into its folder name (sp56816).

After you do that, go to the device manager.

Click on the PCI Serial Port needing the driver.  Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC.

Do you need that port ? Please download and install

   ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45367.exe

If not, no worried, your machine will run fine because nowadays we use USB to serial adapters, not native PCI serial.

Regards.

yes sir, this worked flawlessly.

you can mark this as SOLVED with flying collors.

I guess I needed the right driver in the raw form, and force the install.

again thank you so very much, I will save it for my other PC, see I have 2 given to me for free.

and I now I can run them to their fullist.

again thank you so very much.

I do need it sadly, I use it for adding a GPU or better yet a high quilty soundcard for a recording studio that I'm setting up.

those computers are given to me for free, to be honest I'm so impressed with the prfomance  of that PC that I upgraded the RAM and I changed the hard drive to a SSD and I can't tell you how good it became, my next step is a better power supply or I should say a higher wats profile.

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, the power supply is proprietary and can't be upgraded.

I have an 8000 Elite and an 8200 Elite CMT...both with the memory maxed out, and with SSD's.

I like the 8200 Elite so much with its nVidia GT 1030 graphics card, Intel SSD and 32 GB of memory, I cannot justify buying a newer model.

Plus the 8200 Elite has support for SATA III drives.

Yes, these models really run nice with a few simple upgrades.

I run a nvidia 1030, I've seen 1050s run on those machines. The low wattage is not much of an issue. My next project will have to be with a mini tower. I'm loving the 8200 elite, i find alot of people using them for emulation retro gaming box.

They out perform the standard bench marks, and relatively affordable.

A big fan of HP.
