EliteBook840
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Login with password stopped working. I had no recovery disc, only a local password and no biometrics login (sigh!)
After trying different alternatives I was instructed to make a full recovery to original factory conditions.
Did so and the machine started running Win 7.

Tried the HP recovery DVD-disc to Win 8.1 Pro, connected via USB/disc drive but does not get the installation running.

Have been trying "to disable secure boot and restore the default BIOS settings for Elitebook, Probook, and mobile workstation computers" according to HP-support instructions to get the DVD-disc installation running but can not open the start up menu.

On restart I see a short flicker, 1/10th of a second, with the menu while pressing "Esc" and then the machine proceeds to open HP Login window/HP Drive Encryption.

After filling in my new password/or using biometrics and restarting the same situation happens again?

Really appreciating help with this - thank you!

Hi

Not sure this is much use...

You could perhaps try the above iso as an install media, DVD/USB.
