Hi,
*** Update - Found there were bad blocks / sectors on HDD by using a bootable USB from Seagate. Once they were sorted, although the PC would not boot off the HDD still, it would recognize the Windows Install DVD and I could perform a "repair". Appears that the Install DVD was dependent on either the HDD being totally free of bad blocks / sectors or they were in a particular location of the HDD that the DVD needed to access ****
- HP Pavilion 15-n266sa Notebook
- Stopped booting into Windows 8.1 for no known reason. Just displays HP logo and spinning wheel
- F11 System Recovery produces an HP logo with spinning wheel then blank screen
- Have managed to archive files by booting off Ubuntu Live CD and copying files to USB
- Ubuntu 'Disks' command shows 1TB drive split into 5 partitions (Recovery, EFI, Reserved, Data, Data)
- Tried booting off Windows DVD to re-install, but again HP logo and spinning wheel, then blank screen
- Sometimes on boot-up off HDD it says "Automatic Repair" but then goes to blank screen
- Have downloaded and created a couple of different versions of WinPE but same results - HP logo and spinning wheel
Any suggestions on what I can do gratefully appreciated. Any questions, please ask. Thanks
