Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi can anyone confirm if a Pavilion 15-p189na is compatible with Windows 10? I'm running Window 8.1 and can see some Pavilion models have been tested with windows 10 (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_3913140-3876462-16 ), but can't see the model I have there.

Hi:

Your notebook was supported by HP for W10 when it first came out since there are W10 drivers for it on the support page.

However, it has not been tested for the latest build of W10 21H2, so you would have to try it and see what happens.

You can upgrade to W8.1 for free by clicking on the blue Update Now button at the link below.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

If for some reason W10 does not work well on your notebook, you have 10 days to go back to W8.1.

See this link for how to go back to W8.1.

Go back to Windows 8.1 (microsoft.com)

Before trying to upgrade to W10, I recommend that you make a system image of your current W8.1 installation prior to updating to W10, so you can easily reinstall W8.1 after the 10 day 'go back' window has expired. I used the free Macrium Reflect software to do that, under the Backup at Home section.

Along with the system image, make sure you create the bootable DVD or USB rescue drive you boot from to access the system image stored on your portable hard drive.
