Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

My notebook recently hung (most of the times) before going to Windows 7 and stays on the black screen (screen is ok) forever.

I have tried the "Esc" for all the tests which all PASSed.  Anything I have missed, hardware or software !?

Let me know please.

Thanks.

@FrankieYep

What do you mean by "before going to Windows 7? From what I know, the HP DV6 came preloaded with Win7.  So, what were you running on it?

Thanks.

After I see I can apply "Esc" for system checking, I get a blank screen with no response to ANY input keys (that's what

I mean "before the Windows 7") and normally the next step will be the role of WIndows 7 (from the HD).

Sorry for being not clear.

That's not a good sign -- as the Esc menu is provided in firmware and you will see that even if there is no drive attached.

If you get nothing AFTER that, the implication is that your drive is dead.

This issue is almost always due to a failing drive.

If your PC is new enough to support UEFI, you can use these steps to test the hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024

If not, to check the drive you have to follow these steps:
1) Press Esc key repeatedly, several times a second, while rebooting the laptop. Do NOT hold the key down, just press it over and over.
2) Eventually, you will see an HP Startup Menu
3) Press the Function key for testing the hard drive (usually F2) and let it run.

I can "Esc" & "Esc" & "Esc"... without problem and can also go to the HP Startup menu .... but to

go further after all "successful" tests seems to be the same "blank screen", no matter "Esc" not not "Esc".

Hard drive problem !?

Thanks.
