Pavilion x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently came into possession of a pavilion x360 touchscreen laptop. I was given it by a family member who had used it but since upgraded. He had reset it to factory stock windows 10 prior to gifting it to me. I used it for approximately 3 days or so and then one day I was prompted with a notification for a Windows system update. I started the update and since it was going to take over an hour, I decided to go about my day with other chores. I got busy and I wasn't able to return to the computer until the following day.

The following day I found the laptop off, so I turned it on and waited for windows to boot up. It unfortunately didn't boot up but instead got stuck in a loop on a screen which said undoing changes made to your computer. I researched this and came to the conclusion that the system update was unsuccessful and I had a problem. Upon further research I found information all pointing to a system restore as a possible fix.

I went through the motions and each time I try I am given a screen saying : restoration incomplete. The restoration did not complete. Please select one of the following buttons: save log, details, or retry. Retry button will restart the computer and give me the exact same result each time. The details button has a window with a bunch of code and commands all of which I cannot provide here due to the amount of time it would take to type it out. It looks pretty typical until it gets to :

"Found fail message in the C:\system.sav\logs\BB\P00QG0B2"

Followed by some more text, then:

" [FAILURE FLAG]

[PASS2_BBVCLEAN][PIN_ERROR_MSG][ChkError.cmd] Found C:\SYSTEM.SAV\FAILURE.FLG

Result=FAILED

C:\SWSetup\APP\Security\McAfee\McAfeeMLS_QQG0B2\15.3.3074\FAILURE.FLG

P00QGO-B2K McAfeeMLS"

Followed by more error messages. This stood out as well: " Refer to the following file[s] if exists to see detail. C:\CTOERROR.flg, C:\System.sav\*FAILURE.flg, or C:\system.sav\Logs\AllFailure.log

This is for customer image...

Trigger CTO panic...

This is Recovery image...

[ChkError.cmd] has completed..."

Then more error messages. If I hit retry the cmd.exe window says " the system cannot find the drive specified" about 6 times then it says "  Access is denied"  I appreciate some help with this matter because I really feel as though I'm in above my head and I need to get this taken care of.

Thank you

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

If you do not have much data on the Computer, we may need to do a system reset: https://support.hp.com/my-en/document/c04742289.

If there's data on it, we suggest you to boot into safe mode and attempt a backup before reset: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03439317

Let me know if this helps.
