My Hp pc will only charge when it is turned of or in sleep mode. It will not charge when it in use. I have had this problem for around a year now. My pc is almost 3 years old now. I tried to reset my pc. Then I would charge again but a week later or so it stopped charging again. I have tried to buy a charger. But it wont charge with it.

Hello @Eskild,
Well if I be honest, considering the age of the laptop, it's not surprising if the laptop's battery is starting to fail.
I would recommend a battery replacement.
Your laptop accepts either battery option with the first option having a higher capacity:
4-cell, 41-Whr, 2.8-Ah Li-ion battery 740715-001
3-cell, 31-Whr, 2.8-Ah Li-ion battery 746641-001
You can then use the HP Spare part number(s) in the HP Parts store here. You may also be able to find it elsewhere on the Internet.
Replacing the battery is simply pulling on the two battery lock latches on the back and popping the battery out. Then stick the new one in.
Hopefully this solves your issue.
Best regards,
Eddy

Hello @Eskild,
Please test the battery and the original AC adapter using the HP UEFI Diagnostics:
- Repeatedly press Esc upon startup
- Select F2 (System Diagnostics)
- Select the desired language
- Navigate to component tests
- Select Battery and AC adapter
Let me know how it goes.
BTW is the new AC adapter an original replacement?
Kind regards,
Eddy

Hello @Eskild,
Could you please enlighten me about how and where you purchased the original charger? Just wanting to make sure.
Furthermore, a specific model/product number would be appreciated. (Please do not post serial numbers on the HP Support Forum)
Information on how to find a laptop's model/product number is detailed in this HP document.
If the charger truly is a genuine charger meant to charge this model, there is a slight possibility of a charging jack or motherboard issue considering the age of the laptop. You haven't tried replacing the battery, however, have you?
Please also test the battery in HP Support Assistant and share with us the Advanced results:
In case you don't already have it, here is the download page for HP Support Assistant.
Kind regards,
Eddy
