Pavilion 15-au018wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I have just purchased the Pavilion 15-au018wm display modle from Wal-Mart. I went through the setting and started the factory reset, but half way through it send to run intosend to run into a problem. It was installing windows 10 and was at 59% but it was stuck there for hours. When I came back from the store the laptop had turned off and when I powers it back on it booted up and went back to the windows installation at 64%. But the problem now is it continues to shut down and power back on. It seams to go through the boot system and goes straight to the installation page but the shuts down as soon as it the installation opens. Ive tried using the safe boot buttons but nothing works, it just contenuse to go through this cycle. What should I do and what is the problem?

A very warm welcome to the HP community. A very good day to you.

I understand that you have a new HP Pavilion 15-au018wm. I read that you initiated a system recovery (Windows installation) and it was stuck at 59%. When you reached home, the laptop had shutdown. Again when you powered in on, the Windows installation was at 64% and it shutdown again. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did you initiate the Windows recovery using the recovery partition which in on the laptop's hard drive or by using the recovery disks/USB kit?
  • Are there are other USB devices connected to the laptop like a printer, USB flash drive,  external monitor, etc? If yes then these devices and present the installation from continuing further.

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
  • Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

Now, I suggest to disable the secure boot option in your laptop. You may refer to the steps mentioned under "Using Secure Boot on newer notebook computers " >> "Disabling Secure Boot on recent model notebook computers that include Legacy Support ".

Once you have disabled the secure boot option, please initiate a system recovery by following the steps mentioned under "Recovery when Windows 10 does not start correctly" from this HP article. NOTE: Ensure that the charger is plugged into the laptop while installing Windows.

If the laptop continues to shutdown and does not allow to install Windows then let us run the hardware tests on the laptop. The below steps should help:

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  • Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second.

  • The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.

  • Select component tests.

  • Please initiate a test on the hard drive, system board and the memory one after the other.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know the outcome. Good luck! 🙂
