HP Pavilion Laptop PC 14-dv1000 (464V0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Over the past few days, I've been experiencing issues with my laptop. Whenever I try to turn it on, it gets stuck on the 'Preparing Automatic Repair' screen. I took it to a friend for help, and he enabled BitLocker recovery, which now requires me to enter the recovery key each time I start the laptop. Even after entering the key, it returns to a black screen displaying 'Preparing Automatic Repair.' I've exhausted all available options, including checking the BIOS settings and running system diagnostics, but the issue persists.

Hi @TaiwoFinni,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the Preparing Automatic Repair issue with your HP Pavilion laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Enter Safe Mode

  1. Restart the laptop and as it boots, press the F8 key (or Shift + F8 on some models) repeatedly to enter the recovery environment.
  2. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings.
  3. Enable Safe Mode and see if the system boots up. If it does, you can try disabling startup programs or uninstalling recent updates or software that might be causing the problem.

Use System Restore

  1. From the recovery environment, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore.
  2. Select a restore point from before the issue occurred and follow the prompts to restore your system.

Perform Startup Repair

  1. Again, from the recovery environment, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair.
  2. Follow the instructions. This option attempts to fix boot-related files automatically.

Attempt a System Reset

  1. If you manage to enter the recovery environment through Troubleshoot, you may choose Reset this PC.
  2. This option lets you reset Windows but keeps your files. Be sure to back up important data if this option is considered.

Disable Secure Boot (If Enabled)

  1. Enter BIOS by restarting your laptop and pressing F10 key repeatedly as it boots.
  2. In BIOS setup, find Secure Boot under the Boot or Security tab. Disable it and save changes.

Check for Faulty Hardware

  1. If the problem persists, there might be an underlying hardware fault. Consider running a diagnostics test from BIOS

I hope this helps.
