  • Laptop Model: HP 15 Series (Model: 15-af103AX / RMN: TPN-C126).
  • System Configuration: Running without the main internal battery for 5 years (AC power only); BIOS/CMOS battery is dead/removed.
  • Incident: Worked fine 2 hours prior and was shut down normally. Upon attempting to turn it back on, it failed to power up.

Symptom Behavior:

  • When the AC adapter is plugged in, the power jack LED briefly turns Red/Amber for 1–2 seconds, then switches to a solid White LED (indicating 19V rail detection/charger recognition).
  • Pressing the power button does not power on the system—no fan spin, no LED indicator on the power button, and no display response.
  • Performing a static discharge (hard reset) did not resolve the issue.

Hi @sh_22,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for providing the detailed information. Since the laptop was working normally and then suddenly stopped powering on, while the AC adapter is still being detected, we should first narrow down what the system is doing before moving on to further troubleshooting.

Before we proceed, please confirm:

  • When you press the Power button, does the charging/power LED remain solid white, or does it change in any way?
  • Do you hear any fan noise, beeps, or other sounds when attempting to power it on?
  • Does the screen show anything at all, even briefly?
  • Have you already tried the Windows + B BIOS Recovery procedure, and if so, did you see an HP BIOS Recovery or BIOS Update screen?
  • Was anything changed, disconnected, or installed on the laptop between the time it was working and when the problem started?

Once you confirm the above, please try these steps:

1. Connect the AC adapter directly to a wall outlet

  • Disconnect the AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Disconnect all other devices and peripherals from the laptop, including USB devices, external drives, SD cards, etc.
  • Connect the AC adapter directly to a known-good wall outlet, without using a power strip, surge protector, or extension.
  • Connect the adapter to the laptop and check the LED.
  • Then try turning the laptop on.

2. Try HP BIOS Recovery
With the laptop turned off and the AC adapter connected:

  1. Press and hold Windows + B
  2. While holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds, then release the Power button while continuing to hold Windows + B
  3. Continue holding the keys for several seconds and check whether the HP BIOS Update/Recovery screen appears.

If the BIOS Recovery screen appears, allow the process to complete without interrupting the laptop.

Please reply with the answers to the questions above and let me know exactly what happens when you perform the BIOS Recovery and power-on tests. That will help us determine the next appropriate step without making unnecessary changes to the system.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
