HP ENVY - 13-ad112nd

I bought a Samsung monitor but I cannot get it paired with my laptop. I have already done a check on my operating system via the HP website but it is not correct! My laptop is running Windows 11 but according to the check, it can only be Windows 10. I don't know if this is related but very strange! Would like help on how to get the monitor connected to my laptop.

Hi @noortje07,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing problems connecting a monitor to your HP ENVY 13 laptop, there could be several reasons behind the issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the problem.

Check the Physical Connections:

  • Ensure that both the monitor and laptop are powered on.
  • Verify that you have the correct cables and adapters. Most modern laptops use HDMI or DisplayPort, so make sure you're using the appropriate cable.
  • Make sure the cable connections are secure on both ends (laptop and monitor).

Monitor Input Source:

  • Check the input source on your external monitor. Use the monitor's menu buttons to select the correct input source (e.g., HDMI 1, HDMI 2, DisplayPort).

Windows Display Settings:

  • Right-click on your desktop and select "Display settings."
  • Scroll down to the "Multiple displays" section and ensure that your monitor is detected. If it's not, click "Detect" to see if Windows can find it.
  • If it's detected but not working as expected, you can choose to extend or duplicate the display, depending on your preferences.

Graphics Driver:

  • Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause display issues. Make sure your graphics drivers are up-to-date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website or the GPU manufacturer's website (e.g., NVIDIA or AMD).

Restart Your Laptop:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve display issues.

Try Another Monitor or Laptop:

  • To identify if the issue is with your monitor or laptop, try connecting your laptop to a different monitor or connect another device (e.g., another laptop or PC) to the problematic monitor. This can help pinpoint where the problem lies.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • If none of the above solutions work, there may be a hardware issue with either your laptop's video output or the monitor's input port. You may need to contact HP support or the monitor manufacturer for further assistance.

Operating System Updates:

  • Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date with the latest updates, as these updates can sometimes address display issues.

BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • In some cases, you may need to access your laptop's BIOS or UEFI settings to configure the display options. Be cautious when making changes in the BIOS/UEFI, as incorrect settings can cause problems.

Check for Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the monitor you are trying to connect to is compatible with your laptop's video output and resolution settings.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve most issues related to connecting a monitor to your HP ENVY 13 laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
