Since a few weeks ago, when using Microsoft Edge, my laptop would freeze for a few minutes. When I was finally able to move the curser again I would shut down and restart, which fixed the problem. It happened a good few times.
Then about a week ago when it happened the screen went black. No curser, nothing. I waited about 10 minutes but it was still a black screen. So I tried CTRL + ALT + DEL but it didn't work so I had to hold the power button for a few seconds to turn the laptop off.
Since then whenever I am using Microsoft Edge the webpages load slowly. Then a few days ago the screen turned blue and it said there was a problem with "windiwifi.sys" and my laptop had to restart. I didn't get time to read the rest of it as the laptop restarted. I thought that would fix the problem, but it didn't.
I have checked my updates and installed the newest version of Windows 10 hoping it would help, but it hasn't.
Any time I am on Microsoft Edge the webpages are still loading slowly, if at all. I have checked my wifi connection, my router etc., everything. And it is all working normally so it is seemingly nothing to do with that. My phone works fine using the same internet connection. I don't know if this is this a problem with my laptop, or a problem with Microsoft Edge and I should wait for the next update with the fix, or what should I do? Thank you.
(I don't know if this should be in the 'operating system and recovery' or 'wireless and networking' board. Let me know if I'm wrong and I will move to the other board if needed).

Unfortunately, I have no been able to find any information about that file.
But the new Edge, known as Edgeium due to its Chromium ancestry, comes in different versions. The latest stable version is 87.0.664.75. If you are running the Stable release and not using that version, then you should update the version by clicking the three dots in the top-right of the window, select Help and Feeback, and the About.
If that does not fix the issue, then you might want to consider using a development version as those are less stable, but they have fixed more bugs in them.

Thank you for replying.
I could not find anything on 'windiwifi.sys' either when I googled it or searched on this site, which is confusing. I am 99.99% sure that is what it said, but I did only get to see it for a split second before my laptop restarted.
That is the version of Edge I have installed. Do you think it is a problem with the version of Microsoft Edge that I am using and should wait on future window updates fixing it?

I have Edgeium installed on most of my Win10 PCs and am not running into any problems with it -- and I regularly update it to the latest Stable version.
As I said, you can go to Microsoft and get newer versions and see if any of them have that problem fixed. I don't use the newer versions because they tend to be unstable and I use the browser all the time.

Ok thanks for your help. I'll look at trying the newer versions to see if they work better, if not I'll install chrome and see if that fixes the problem until hopefully a stable version of Edge that doesn't take an age to load webpages is available.
But should I be worried that my laptop told me there was a problem with "windiwifi.sys" and neither you or I can find anything about it?
