Almost every time I try to shut down my computer, I hear a sound like a click and the computer basically restarts instead of shutting down. It happens 2-3 times at least every time. That used to also happen in my old HP laptop and I am not sure what is causing it.

@Avenging_angel, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Install updates using HP Support Assistant
1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.
Perform steps under "Change what happens when you press the power button" mentioned in this document.
Update Windows
Select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.
Run a System test
Shutdown the computer using the power button (pressed and hold for a few seconds until PC powers off)
Power the computer back on.
As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap) before any logo appears. This should open a HP Startup Menu
- Choose F2 to open System Diagnostics. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test.
Let me know how this goes.
