Hi @Doro33dd,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting The "Battery counterfeit check error" message typically indicates that the laptop does not recognize the battery as a genuine HP product.
Here are some steps to troubleshoot this issue:
1. Verify the Battery
- Check Authenticity: Ensure that the battery is a genuine HP product. Sometimes even batteries purchased from authorized dealers can have issues.
- HP Support Tool: Use the HP Support Assistant to check the battery status and authenticity.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
- Shut Down: Completely power off the laptop.
- Unplug: Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery.
- Hold Power Button: Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect: Reinsert the battery and connect the AC adapter.
- Turn On: Try turning on the laptop.
3. Update BIOS and Drivers
- BIOS Update: Ensure the BIOS is up to date. An outdated BIOS can sometimes cause hardware compatibility issues.
- Download BIOS Update: Go to the HP support website and download the latest BIOS update for your specific laptop model.
- Follow Instructions: Carefully follow the instructions to update the BIOS.
4. Check Battery Connection
- Re-seat Battery: Ensure the battery is properly seated and the contacts are clean.
- Inspect Battery: Look for any visible damage or defects on the battery.
5. Test with AC Adapter Only
- Remove Battery: Take out the battery and connect the laptop directly to the AC adapter.
- Power On: Turn on the laptop to see if it powers up without the battery. This can help determine if the issue is with the battery or another component.
Refer to this document: HP Notebook PCs - Using and Testing the AC Power Adapter
HP Notebook PCs - 601 or 60X error is displayed on a black screen
