HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg2000 (4U8D7AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

When I'm playing games or watching videos that consume a lot of the system and I'm charging with less than 95% battery, the system lowers all performance to the minimum and freezes for a moment. All the consumption I had drops to 5%, let's say I had the GPU at 80 and out of nowhere it lasts 5s at 10%

Hi @Moshyok,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

The issue you're experiencing with your HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg2000 (4U8D7AV)—where performance drops significantly while charging and under load—could be caused by several factors, including power management settings, thermal throttling, or driver issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to address this problem:

1. Check Power Settings

Open Power Options:

  • Right-click on the battery icon in the taskbar and select Power Options.

Select High Performance:

  • Choose the High-Performance power plan. If you don’t see it, click on Show Additional Plans to find it.

Adjust Advanced Settings:

  • Click on Change plan settings next to the selected plan, then Change Advanced Power Settings.
  • Under Processor power management, ensure that the minimum and maximum processor states are set to 100%.
  • Check the Graphics settings to ensure that your laptop is using the dedicated GPU for games and high-performance applications.

2. Update Graphics Drivers

  1. Update GPU Drivers:
    • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your GPU (NVIDIA or AMD).
    • Alternatively, use GeForce Experience (for NVIDIA) or AMD Radeon Software to check for and install updates.

3. Check for Thermal Throttling

Monitor Temperatures:

  • Use software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check your CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming or watching videos.
  • If temperatures are excessively high (usually above 90°C), the system may throttle performance to prevent overheating.

Improve Cooling:

  • Ensure that your laptop is on a flat, hard surface for proper airflow.
  • Consider using a cooling pad to help dissipate heat.

4. Disable Battery Saver

  1. Check Battery Settings:
    • Go to Settings > System > Battery.
    • Ensure that Battery Saver is turned off while plugged in.

Kindly check the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Moshyok,

Please find the next steps below.

5. Check Background Processes

  1. Open Task Manager:
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • Check for any background processes consuming CPU or GPU resources while gaming or streaming.
    • End any unnecessary processes that may be affecting performance.

6. Disable HP Power Manager

If your laptop has HP Power Manager installed, it may be managing performance settings:

  1. Open HP Power Manager:
    • Check if there are any settings that may be limiting performance while charging.
    • Set it to a performance mode if available.

7. Update BIOS

An outdated BIOS can cause performance issues:

  1. Visit HP Support:
    • Go to the HP Support website and search for your laptop model.
    • Check for any BIOS updates and follow the instructions to update if available.

8. Test with Different Charger

  1. Use the Original Charger:
    • Make sure you are using the original HP charger that came with your laptop, as third-party chargers may not provide enough power.
  2. Test with a Different Charger:
    • If possible, try using another compatible HP charger to see if the problem persists.

9. Perform a Clean Boot

To rule out software conflicts:

Open System Configuration:

  • Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.

Disable Startup Programs:

  • Go to the Startup tab and click on Open Task Manager.
  • Disable unnecessary startup programs.

Reboot the Laptop:

  • Restart your laptop and check if the issue persists.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there may be a hardware-related problem or an issue that requires remote assistance, In that case, contact HP Support for further
