OMEN Laptop 15-en0012np
FreeDOS

Hello all, I'm new here, because I bought my first HP computer. But it has not started in the best way.

My Laptop: OMEN Laptop 15-en0012np

The laptop came with FreeDOS installed and HP Docs, which were the two only options when booting the system.

I proceeded to "install" a legitimate downloaded Windows 10 OS into a USB stick. When I changed boot order, I could go into the windows 10 installation menu.

When I got into the partition selection menu there were 3 or 4 partitions, being one of them possibly a recovery partition or the freeDOS system partition.

When trying to select the biggest free partition and installing windows 10, a message error appeared saying that there was a conflit of GPT and MBR partition tables. It allows to continue the installation, but I did not, because I wanted to avoid problems. Not continuing, it informs of an installation error: 0x2..... (some code).

One method I found could work, was deleting what existed before in MBR partition taable mode (FreeDOS, HP Docs, and others), but I was still not sure if I was not deleting more than desired. So I deleted a 4.9GB partition, which got to be the recovery partition and maybe other things, and now it doesn't even let me access freeDOS. I did not delete the other partitions, afraid I would mess with the computer even more.

It still allows to boot from the USB and "allows" to install the Windows 10, but with same problem as before, and I am still afraid of deleting all the partitions to install Windows 10. And was not something I wanted to do. I wanted to keep freeDOS and all that the computer came with, even though that just might not be possible anymore, since I deleted the partition.

Now I can not install Windows, and I lost the recovery partition. Any help will be appreciated, even though I am already trying to contact the seller of my computer to try to proceed with the installation.

Hi:

I believe that your only option at this point would be to delete all partitions, leaving just one partition of unallocated space, and install W10.

I don't believe there is anything you need on there and what can you do with FreeDOS anyway?

You may even want to use diskpart and clean the entire disk.

I used the Windows 10 USB installer to delete all the partitions and then I could install windows 10 normally without problem.

I read somewhere that with SSD using diskpart clean or clean all is not good. Not sure about the details.

But your solutions worked, just I would not recommend the diskpart for cleaning SSD partitions.

Thank you for your help Paul_Tikkanen!

You're very welcome.

Using diskpart to clean the a SSD is fine.  You should not use the clean all command too many times for the reason specified in the link below.
