Microsoft Windows XP

- I did a Repair Install on a friend's Windows XP computer. It is asking for a Product Key.

- The OEM Product key is not working. I downloaded Produkey, and it found another product key that is not working either.

- Also, some of the keyboard keys arent working.

Help please!

I wish I had good news for you -- but I don't ...

The ONLY version of XP that is going to activate using the product key supplied with the PC is the HP OEM version.  Any other version you used to reinstall XP is NOT going to activate.

As to using keys you downloaded (presumably, from the Internet) that is a waste of time because those have been out in circulation long enough for MS to have blacklisted them, rendering them useless.

Keyboard keys not working could be a symptom of NOT having the HP Drivers loaded, as reinstalled with a different version of XP will not load those drivers.

HP no longer stocks recovery media for OSs that old, so you should see if either of these locations has it: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/

Good Luck

Hi Jesse,

Microsoft themselves has stopped support for windows xp.  I can understand your position, but i am so sorry, getting a product key for windows xp !!!!  is not possible.

Nevertheless,, you may wait for more replies to your post , and i wish you get a favourable reply . 🙂

My friend (The owner) of the computer found the recovery disks.

Windows XP has been reinstalled.

But where can I find updated drivers for this model?

I know it has been retired.

Thanks, Jesse Williams
