Probook 4730s
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Dear all,

I am replacing the HD which was completely damaged and fully unusefull in my HP Probook 4730s laptop.  Since mine did not come with a DVD, I am looking for an original HP DVD to reinsatall Windows 7 (64) and all the HP software that came with it originally.  I'm not expecting a disk for free, although the MS Windows 7 (64 bit) on it was a registered software.
Anyway, if it is HP OEM, I do not care.  Thanks....
Remarks:
I bought this 4730s in Croatia, Europe, where I premanently live as well. Regarding to the info found at HP USA web site, this HP Windows 7 (64 bit) DVDs are only available for the customers in the States and Canada respectively. Non of the European countries. It is fair, isnt it?  Are we the second class users?
Sorry for this bitter comment, but so far I couldn find any reasonably good solution to save and use my HP Probook 4730s laptop for another couple of years, I must admit that the machine is quite good and very usefull for my every day purpose.
Thanks a lot....

@Miauau

First off, what you need is something known as HP Recovery Media -- and that is a SET of DVDs (usually three) with a companion drivers and utilities CD.

Second, HP has stopped carrying most of the Win7 recovery media, so if you follow the directions below to look for yours and do not see it, you will have to check with the alternate source.

HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities.
In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded.
You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
Once there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update". If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entry and click on Order Media for details.
Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:
If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1
If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html
NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!
If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800)474-6836

If HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, another site you can check is: http://www.computersurgeons.com

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. But, the Recovery Media needed (Win 7 64 bit for HP ProBook 4730s Notebook) is no longer available at the page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers.

Since I bought the HP ProBook in Europe, there is no chance to to get the 3 DVD complete from HP Customer Service for US or Canada on http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone, because they cannot support products, i.e. Notebook sold outside th US or Canada.

So, the next step will be to try to contact someone who represents HP in our country, Croatia, and see if they have such Win 7 Recovery Media. Information that has just come from Paul_Tikkanen (Provost) suggested that I should call the HP business PC support number in Croatia. ( +385-1 6060 200  ) and see if I can still order a set of W7 recovery disks froem them.

Futhermore,  I will check another site that you mentioned: http://www.computersurgeons.com and see what can be found there.

Thanks for your help,  I shall keep you posted all.

Best regards

Hi WAWood,

I have just checked the site http://www.computersurgeons.com and found aut that there is set of HP Recovery Media for HP ProBook 4730s for Windows 7 32 bit only.

So this is not suitable for my 64 bit machine.

So after the Christmass time is over, I am going to call HP support in Croatia.

Thanks...

Hi;

There is one other thing you can try.  The part I don't know if it will work or not is the product key working on the retail W7 pro installation media, but at least you can use your notebook for 30 days if you can't.

If you can still read all 25 characters of the W7 product key on your PC's case, you can make your own W7 installation media.

Click on the Windows ISO Downloader.exe link to download the tool to create the W7 ISO file download.

Select the W7 Pro SP1 ISO file download version for the product key the OS is good for.  The 1st set of files has the Croatian language.

I have zipped up and attached the Microsoft utility below, that will allow you to either put the file on a USB flash drive or burn it to a DVD.

Then you can install the drivers and available software you need from your PC's support page.

If the Microsoft tool doesn't work to burn a DVD, use this free DVD burning software to burn the ISO file to a DVD.

Select the "Burn ISO file option."   Burn the DVD at the slowest possible speed you can to get a strong burn.

Hi Paul Tikkanen,

I tried to solve the problem exactly you adviced,  but as I had mentioned before, there were no drivers and software that I needed for my PC at HP PC's support page.

Namely, Software and driver searching results for HP ProBook 4730s Notebook PC at: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-probook-4730s-notebook-pc/5060893  NO LONGER EXISTS.

Therefore W7 64 bit ISO file download is usefull without having any driver needed for my PC.

So I must say that Your latest reply did not resolve my post i.e my question.

But anyway, thank you.

Best regards,

Miso

Hi:

I don't understand the problem...You are jumping to the wrong conclusion here...

When I click on the link you posted, and select Windows, and Windows 7 drivers, there is a full set of drivers.

You  need to use another browser such as Chrome until you can do the required updates to W7 to get IE 11, because the support pages won't work anymore on IE8.

Here is the ethernet driver to get you started....

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63001-63500/sp63213.exe

If you post the hardware ID for the device labeled as a Network Controller, I will also post the link to the wifi driver.

Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID for a device...

Does your notebook have the AMD/Intel switchable graphics, or just the onboard intel graphics?

Let me know, and I will post the link to the graphics driver too, so you can have decent screen resolution.

These drivers have all come from the very same link you posted...
