Probook 4730s
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Running Win 7 on probook 4730s. Want to upgrade to Win 10, however, when I tried a few months ago I ended up with multiple problems and a message saying it 'wasn't supported' or something like that. Haad to revert to Win 7. Thought I would try again but see - under 'drivers' that there are no drivers available for Win 10 - only 7, 8, etc.

Have HP addressed this issue yet, as there are many people with the same problem - going on web posts - but I haven't seen a fix yet. Surely HP aren't simply going to hang Probook 4730s owners out to dry - or are they?

A solution would be gratefully appreciatted.

Hello @NoelBig

Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting.

There is nothing to address here. Simply said, your PC does not support Windows 10 - it was "born" before Windows 10 was released. HP are not obligated to support any new OS Microsoft decides to push on all of their old devices.

Windows 7 is a great operating system - currently the most popular and most used operating system worldwide (about 50% of all desktop computers). It is stable and is going to be supported with updates by year 2020. Although I don't see any need, you can run Windows 10 on a virtual machine inside your own PC or consider buying another newer HP computer.

Hi:

Here is the official HP document regarding PC support for W10.

Your PC was made prior to August of 2013.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05195282

I have 3 HP business notebooks that are older than yours, and they run W10 OK, but they don't have webcams, switchable graphics, and I don't use the fingerprint reader (though the W7 driver installed the fingerprint reader).

Expected issues I would predict for the 4730s on W10 would be...probably the fingerprint reader won't work, but the driver will install.  Possibly the audio won't work.  Probably the webcam won't work, and if the notebook has the AMD/Intel switchable graphics, the graphics won't work.  Wireless may not work depending on the model wifi card the notebook has.

The card reader will work using the W7 drivers.  Some of the other devices will work using the W7 drivers.
