Pavillion 15
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

Just got this laptop today, and immediately started to run an Excel spreadsheet with a Monte Carlo script that I built years ago and ran many hundreds of times on my Acer Aspire A515-44 laptop with a Ryzen 7 4700U chip. In my worst case, the script (which repeat an action 1,000 times) never took longer than 2:45. But my Pavillion 15, with an Intel i7-1165G7 take more than twice that time on average. It starts out very quickly, but then just as quickly slows down. I believe it might be compensating for heating up. The fan comes on quickly (as it does on my Acer), but eventually the script slows to a crawl. If I stop the script and then restart, it resumes a fast pace momentarily. But this action is really making the Pavillion heat up. So my guess is I shouldn't do that! Anyway, my question is whether this is considered normal behavior for this computer. I can't imagine that anyone doing any kind of intensive gaming could last long with this kind of performance degradation.

@JackDNaudi1

I have an older HP laptop with a Ryzen 5000 series and it has no issues like this.  I would expect a 7000 series to fly -- and not exhibit these issues.

If this were mine, I would contact HP and demand a replacement and if that did the same thing, return that for a full refund.

Unfortunately, we are not able to assist you in that, so you have to contact HP yourself.

USA/Canada HP contact info: https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp

IF you can't get to HP that way, then contact where you bought it and see if you can get assistance from them.

Good Luck
