Thank you for posting your query.
For an HP Notebook - 14-dq0002dx that was originally shipped with Windows 11, activation may be provided through a digital license or a 25-character product key. The product key may be stored digitally in the device firmware, included on the original packaging, or provided on a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), depending on how Windows was supplied with the device.
Most factory-installed Windows 11 systems use a digital license associated with the device hardware. In such cases, a 25-character product key may not be required. Once the system is connected to the internet, Windows can automatically activate when the appropriate digital license is detected.
Check the Activation Settings and Error Message:
- Navigate to Start > Settings > System > Activation.
- If your status shows "Windows is not activated", review the specific error message provided on that page to identify the cause.
Verify Windows Edition Matching:
- Ensure that the edition of Windows 11 currently installed (such as Windows 11 Home or Windows 11 Pro) matches the edition originally licensed for your HP notebook. If the installed edition differs from your license entitlement, activation will fail.
Sign In with Your Microsoft Account:
- Verify that you are signed in using an administrator account linked to your Microsoft account. Linking and signing in with your Microsoft account allows Windows 11 to retrieve and apply your digital license online.
Select "I Don't Have a Product Key" During Reinstallation:
- If you recently reinstalled Windows or are setting up the device and prompted for a key, select "I don't have a product key". Once setup finishes and the PC connects online, Windows 11 will automatically detect your hardware's digital license and activate.
Enter a Physical Key (If Applicable):
- If your laptop came with a physical key card or COA sticker in the box, go to Start > Settings > System > Activation, select Change product key, and type in the 25-character code
