I was using my laptop fine, until I uninstalled Code::Blocks (A multi-coding language IDE and compiler). Since then, my computer has always had at least 30% CPU usage from a program called ProductConfig, according to Task Manager. What do I do to fix it and what program is this caused by? Thanks 🙂

@LayneTheEpic,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you download and install HP support assistant from the below link and install all the updates and check whether the issue is resolved.

http://www8.hp.com/in/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_in/en/any/psg/pl...

If you continue to face the issue, I recommend you follow the below steps and disable the apps/programs running in startup one by one and test.

  1. Select the Start  button, then select Settings  > Apps > Startup. Make sure any app you want to run at startup is turned On.
  2. If you don’t see the Startup option in Settings, right-click the Start  button, select Task Manager, then select the Startup tab. (If you don’t see the Startup tab, select More details.) Select the app you want to change, then select Enable to run it at startup or Disable so it doesn’t run.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

HP Support Assistant is already installed, it was on my computer when I first booted it up. What do I do?

@LayneTheEpic,

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

Use HP Support Assistant to automatically install computer updates, such as updated drivers, system updates, and useful utilities.

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

    Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

     Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

  6. Perform any other update management actions as needed.

    • Postpone an update: Click Remind me, and then select a time preference.

    • Delete an available update: Click the Delete icon  to remove the update from the list and record it in the action log.

    • Review updates status: Click Action log below the list to view installed, postponed, or deleted updates.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

No updates. I also just found a post where someone had the same isssue, and the person who helped them said that uninstalling + reinstalling SupportAssist should fix that. Should I try it?

Um..

I don't understand this, but I downloaded the new Windows update and everything is fine before I got to test the uninstall-reinstall SupportAssist method.

Thank you for your time and effort though, and if I ever need to fix this I know where to look 🙂

Yes, recently I just downloaded a new Windows update. There must have been one to download I didn't know about when the problem started. 🙂
