Hi Echo Lake. Not sure if I have the identical problem but it might be. I have a Pavilion 15-cs2016na purchased in 2019. It came with Windows 10 home. A few months ago I used Windows update to upgrade it to Windows 11 Home.
I want to enable Device encryption on it, but have read it must have TPM and Modern Standby. I do not know if it's even capable of supporting these. It has a TPM, but the system Information report shows a failed Hardware Security test. Running a powercfg command shows only S3 standy support. Whether it can ever support Modern Standby I have no means of knowing but I know that with its current firmware, it cannot. So I want to update the BIOS to see if that resolves these two issues.
However, when I go to the HP website, whether it auto detects or I type in the serial number, it only offers Windows 10 as an operating system with reference to my laptop, so I have little faith it will offer me an appropriate level of firmware.
Is there no option to update my BIOS, or is there another way I can get the latest firmware? And is there a way to back up the current BIOS in case of upgrade failure, please?

Thank you for posting back.
I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.
The last thing I can suggest try and restore the OS back to the factory default, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue. The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.
