Laptop is making repeated beeping sounds. Quiet, off-in-the-distance sounds. They occur every few seconds (3-10) and it just keeps repeating. I hear it when nothing is open and also while I'm doing work or watching something on YouTube. I turned off notifications and it's still there.

Hi @jguykema,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 17.3-inch laptop is making repeated beeping sounds even after turning off notifications and when no specific application is running, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to identify and resolve the problem.
Check for Hardware Issues:
- Verify if the beeping sound is coming from the laptop's internal speakers or if it's an external device making the noise. If it's external, check connected devices like printers, external hard drives, or other peripherals.
- Make sure the laptop is not connected to any docking stations or external monitors that might be generating the sound.
Update Drivers:
- Ensure that all your device drivers are up-to-date. Visit the HP official website and download the latest drivers for your laptop model.
Check Task Manager:
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any background processes or applications that might be causing the issue. End any unnecessary tasks and see if the beeping persists.
Run a Malware Scan:
- Perform a full system scan using your antivirus software to rule out the possibility of malware or malicious software causing the issue.
Update BIOS:
- Check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop on the HP support website. Updating the BIOS can sometimes resolve hardware-related issues.
Check Power Settings:
- Go to Power Options in the Control Panel and make sure your power plan settings are configured correctly. Adjust settings such as sleep mode, hibernate, and power-saving features.
Run Windows Troubleshooter:
- Use the built-in Windows troubleshooter to identify and fix any issues related to sound or hardware.
Disable System Sounds:
- Temporarily disable all system sounds to see if the beeping stops. You can do this in the Sound settings in the Control Panel.
Reset BIOS Settings:
- If you are comfortable doing so, you can try resetting the BIOS settings to default. Be cautious while doing this, as changing BIOS settings can affect system behavior.
Before making any significant changes or updates, it's always a good idea to back up important data to avoid potential data loss.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
