Did you ever get your Spectre 15 recovered?  I have a Spectre XT 13-2050NR with the same problem (possibly caused when I did a BIOS update while I had Administrator password set on current BIOS!!).

I've been searching for hours and can't find anyone who's successfully done this with a Spectre (or really anyone with a fairly modern Insyde UEFI BIOS).

Thanks for the reply; your solution works IF the HP_TOOLS partition is on the hard disk: in my case it was not.

I did eventually find the solution; after way too much googling, I found the:

"HP PC Hardware Diagnostics 3-in-1 USB Key"

After downloading and creating a USB key from this executable, I was able to recover my BIOS by using the Win+B key sequence with the USB key inserted in my HP Spectre.

This solution should be posted MUCH more prominently on these forums for all to use.

Thanks to HP support for adding the BIOS recovery capability to the Hardware Diagnostics Utility disk.

In the OFF state, press and hold the Windows Button and B.

While holding these keys, tap the power button Once to start the PC.

Keep holding the Windows Button and B.

Wait for BIOS recovery page to appear on the screen and follow on-screen instructions.
