Hello HP Support. I have the same issue with sp104404 and my HP ENVY - 17-ce0009nf

The error message "this driver is not supported on this os version (10.0.19041)" at the end of the install and device manager throwing a warning "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)".

I definitely do not want to install HP Simple Pass I just want to use Windows Hello which worked fine before. Please could you provide a real solution?

Thank you in advance,

Kind regards,

Marc

@GeertsM Install the HP Simple Pass Identity Protection Software for Windows 10: Click here to download

If the issue persists, Please Click here to download the most viable driver for Windows 10  fingerprint reader (if need be) & if your Simple Pass Software isn't working:

Click here to download a different version of the same software.

Hi,

Why are you bringing up HP Simple Pass with Windows 10? Your own support site states:
NOTE:

If you are using Windows 10, SimplePass has been replaced with Windows Hello. Go to "Understanding and Using Windows 10" for more information.

The HP support website https://support.hp.com/fr-fr/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-17-ce0000-laptop-pc-series/26084757/model/3... for my laptop states the latest driver is sp104404 which fails to install as stated in my original post?

Kind regards,
Marc

@GeertsM In my defense, I didn't know which OS you had, as it wasn't mentioned as Windows 10, and that out of the way, here's a few steps that should help:
Follow the below steps:

  • Update the BIOS
  • Enable biometric support
  • Check for Windows support
  • Clean the fingerprint reader
  • Update the device driver
  • Update the fingerprint reader software
  • Find new device drivers if you changed operating systems

Let me know how that pans out,

Just in case you don't get back to us,

have a good day, ahead.
