@NGSIAWHAI wrote:Hi, I think I had formatted my laptop to Linux for more than 5 times with failure. I had tried up with ubuntu 17.04, ubuntu LTS 16.04, elementary OS, debian, linux mint, lubuntu, all cannot detect Bluetooth for this model hp 14 am036tx. Lastly I formatted back to Windows 10 and Bluetooth work. I want to ask is this laptop only compatible with Windows 10 and not compatible with Linux? Any Linux distro that will compatible with this model? I think the problem for this model is the wifi and bluetooth is on the same card, is it? Thanks for advice.
Hi,
You should try only LTS releases - Ubuntu 16 LTS and Ubuntu 14 LTS. All these you have tried (Ubuntu 17, 16, Elementary OS, LM, Lubuntu) share the very same kernel - should be version 4.4. (if on the same release) except for Debian which kernel is slightly different.
Kernel = Linux kernel
I recommend you try Linux Mint LTS version 17 - Mint 17.2 comes with kernel 3.16
Linux Mint Updater has very user friendly options to change different kernel versions.
With Linux Mint 17.2 you can revert to kernel 3.13, you can try different 3.16 , try 3.19, try 4.2 or 4.4 kernels
You may probably not be able with newer
Download >> https://linuxmint.com/release.php?id=25
Install... Open Update Manager > View > Linux kernels
Try with all possible kernel versions mentioned above 3.13, 3.16 , try 3.19, try 4.2 or 4.4
Since it comes with 3.16 - if you want to restore to 3.13, install 3.13, press Esc during boot to open Linux startup menu, load with older Kernel 3.13 and eventually erase newer 3.16...
If nothing helps, post over Ubuntu forums or ASK as mentioned above.
You may post over Linux Mint forums, as well for further assistance and guides >> https://forums.linuxmint.com/
Bluetooth support may also not be present by default in some distro and some adjustments may be needed.

Open Driver Manager in Linux Mint to view if it will detect some of your device(s) and offer non-free driver.
Such an option also exists in Ubuntu and *buntu derivates >> https://www.howtogeek.com/213488/how-to-install-hardware-drivers-on-linux/
Most consumer class computers nowadays (including those from HP) are not officially Linux supported. We live in a Windows-based world because Microsoft/Windows dominates the market with about 92% market share among PCs and consumer class electronics. Linux is a completely different beer - most of its drivers come from the community and are free open source ones. There are few business class HP computers (commercial class devices - higher end devices) that come with Linux support officially.

Hi, sorry for being late reply you. Actually the bluetooth problem occured due to missing firmware. I had figured out when executed this command lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net; lsusb; dmesg | egrep -i 'blue|firm' in terminal. The output showed as follow:
[ 14.914424] bluetooth hci0: Direct firmware load for brcm/BCM.hcd failed with error -2
[ 14.914427] Bluetooth: hci0: BCM: Patch brcm/BCM.hcd not found.
After done with few research through Google, I had figured out how to solve this problem in Elementary OS Loki. I had executed the steps as follow: (1) download the BCM43142A0-0a5c-21d7.hcd from this website https://github.com/.../master/brcm/BCM43142A0-0a5c-21d7.hcd. (2) renamed the file BCM43142A0-0a5c-21d7.hcd to BCM.hcd. (3) using the terminal with root access sudo cp BCM.hcd to /lib/firmaware/brcm/. (4) shutdown the laptop. (5) start the laptop again and boot it into elementary OS loki. (6) open the terminal and check with this command lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net; lsusb; dmesg | egrep -i 'blue|firm'. The output showed no more error again. Attached with the screenshot to show that all the bluetooth devices connected successfully as evidence.
I think that this discussion can be closed and solved. Thanks HP expert for guiding me all the time. I'm really happy with the support given by HP expert as now I'm able to dual boot my laptop with Windows 10 and Elementary OS Loki. Most of the time, I will boot into Linux and sometime I will boot into Windows 10 just for printing my documents as I'm not able to find Canon Pixma G2000 printer driver for Linux. Thanks HP.
