I want to make sure this is correct.  I have an older Envy that had Home and tried to update to Pro.  It did not work.  the only thing tech wants me to do is complete strip the computer and put in Pro.  What was put into my system is enterprise which will not activate.  SO I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT ANY HP PRODUCT CAN IN FACT BE UPDATED TO PRO

Hi:

Since I don't know what you tried to upgrade from W10 Home to W10 Pro, there is only one way you can do it, and that is to read the info at the link below...toward the bottom of the page.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12384/windows-10-upgrading-home-to-pro

Many folks are under the wrong impression that they can clean install a copy of W10 Pro on a PC that came with W10 Home.

They report that no matter how many times they try to install W10 Pro in the PC, they always get W10 Home.

That is because W10 picks up the Home product key in the BIOS, and always will.

So the 'tech' you refer to in your post is not correct.  If your PC came with W10 Home, and you try to clean install W10 Pro, you will get W10 Home again.

That is why you use the change product key option, if you have a W10 Pro product key to enter.

In your specific situation, since you have an inactivated copy of W10 Enterprise installed, your only option would be to reinstall W10 HOME, and then upgrade to W10 pro using one of the two methods set forth in the link I posted above.

Upgrade using your digital license for Windows 10 Pro

To upgrade, select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & Security > Activation .

If you have a digital license for Windows 10 Pro, and Windows 10 Home is currently activated on your device, you'll see one

of two messages when you select Go to Microsoft Store:

If you see Install, select the button to install Windows 10 Pro.

If you see Buy, you may need to purchase a Windows 10 Pro license. Or, try to sign in to Microsoft Store with the Microsoft account that was used to purchase the Pro license. Then, follow the instructions to install Windows 10.

If you have a digital license for Windows 10 Pro, but Windows 10 Home isn't activated on your device, select Troubleshoot and then follow the instructions to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

Upgrade using a Windows 10 Pro product key

Select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & Security > Activation .

Select Change product key, and then enter the 25-character Windows 10 Pro product key.

Select Next to start the upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.
