Hp notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently transferred a hard drive from a siblings laptop into mine they were both Windows 10. When I booted up the newer laptop it gave me the installing drivers hp screen And then came up with the log in page from the old laptop. Would it be safe to just log in as if this were the older laptop or do I have to clear the hard drive first and install Windows? Is there a way I can continue using the hard drive without having to delete all the data?

Hi,

Yes, there should be no problem using the old drive on the newer laptop. If the computer is newer (you do not give Model number ) the best idea would probably be to clone the old hard drive to an SSD and use the SSD in the notebook which would give a great boost in performance.

Hope it helps,

David

so I can just log in as if it’s the same laptop and there will be no issues? The laptops are about a year or 2 apart. I was just afraid I would log in and I’d get some kind of error because it’s a Windows installation from another laptop.
