HP ZBook Studio 15.6 inch G8 Mobile Workstation PC (30M99AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Experiencing fail to boot. HP helped reinstall since recovery stick failed. It failed to boot at least 3 times since but fortunately after multiple attempts at self repair it booted. It seems to happen after the questionable MS update of mid last month concerning 11 pro and certain HDD controllers after moving large amounts of data then a reboot. But now MS saying not. I've ran tools repeatedly, WD HDD extended test. All clear.

Anyway, seeing issues in event viewer that don't seem right and wonder about having a good install. Do note that SP for the extender with network, video, etc. fails to detect and is dropped often during reboot. Remove power and back brings back.

Would like to know what would be the basic "Windows Features" installed or I should have. It seems like some are missing.

Hi @MooseSquirrel1 ,

If your HP ZBook Studio is experiencing intermittent boot issues, particularly following a recent Windows update, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem:

Check BIOS Settings

  1. Access BIOS: Restart the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter BIOS settings.
  2. Check Boot Order: Ensure the boot order is correctly set with the primary hard drive at the top.
  3. UEFI vs. Legacy Boot: Verify that the boot mode aligns with your installation (for example, UEFI for Windows 11).

Update BIOS and Drivers

  1. BIOS Update: Check for any BIOS updates on the HP Support website. A BIOS update might resolve compatibility issues with recent Windows updates.
  2. Driver Updates: Use HP Support Assistant or visit the HP website to ensure all device drivers are up to date, especially storage and chipset drivers that might impact boot processes.

Windows Updates and System Restore

  1. Uninstall Recent Updates: If you suspect a recent Windows update caused the issue, try uninstalling it through the Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View update history > Uninstall updates.
  2. System Restore: Consider restoring the system to a point prior to the update, if restore points are available.

Verify Hardware Health

  1. HP PC Hardware Diagnostics: Restart the computer and press the Esc key repeatedly, followed by F2 for diagnostics. Run comprehensive tests on the hard drive and memory.
  2. Check Hard Drive Health: Look for any signs of failure or corruption that could be causing intermittent boot issues.

Additional Considerations

  • Safe Boot: Attempt a Safe Boot by holding the Shift key and selecting Restart from the Windows Power menu. This can help isolate if a third-party application or service might be causing the issue.
  • Reseat Components: Ensure the internal components such as RAM and HDD/SSD are properly seated, especially if you recently handled hardware components.

Hope this helps solve your issue
