HP Envy M6 1178sa
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi

I have just today updated the Bios from F.25 to F.26

HP Envy M6 1178sa

Running Windows 8.1

Link for Drivers below:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-m6-1100-Notebook-PC-series/5296045/model/531...

The notebooks powers on, but doesn't boot. Just a black screen... No error messages, justa few ticks and you can hear the fan going on then off.

I bet the Bios is corrupted as I am unable to boot from any other source. USB or Disc.

I also have the Caps Lock button flashing slowly.

Any help will be appreciated!

Solved!!!

1.) Disconnected HDD, Cmos Battery, RAM, and DVD drive.

2.) Drain power by keeping the power button in for 20 secs

3.) Then restart the Notebook again. (all still disconnected)

4.) You won't see any changes... Power off - Notebook after a few seconds.

5.) Reinstall RAM and CMOS battery.

6.) Power on Notebook. message on screen: "Request to install HDD with OS" (Already an improvement)

7.) Install HDD and DVD drive

8.) Restart notebook.

9.) Notebook starts same way it always have.

Hi @RDFX ,

Thank you for your query.

I understand that after doing a bios update your notebook will not start up.  You get a black screen with no error messages but the Caps lock button is flashing.

Here are two links to assist you with this difficulty.

HP Notebook PCs - Computer does not start and the LEDs blink or the computer beeps

HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS

Good Luck!

Thanks for the response.

I have visited these two links. I have tried rolling back the Bios using the Win+B method. I have also installed the hp_tools on a flash drive.

No luck, tried both a million times.

I have checked the LED error code as well: CPU not functional. Confused as to why this error after the Bios update?

Have to callout HP, couldn't today as it is a Holiday.

Any advice on the CPU not functional blink?

Great job!

I also had a problem with corrupted BIOS on my HP Envy m6 1140ec and it's already OK!

Thank You for your solution! :generic:
