HP Folio 13-2000 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have purchased a second hand HP Folio 13-2000 and want to do a factory reset on it.  I press Esc on start-up and it gives F11 Recover option, but when I press F11 it starts Windows and asks for the previous user's Windows password (which I don't have - previous owner was my work but I'm pretty sure they will not give me the Adminstrator's password!).

I assume that means there is no recovery partition?  I then searched the HP site  to order a set of recovery disks, but they do not offer these for this model notebook.  What can I do now?

Hi

If you just PWR on and repeatedly press F11 does that give anything like a recovery screen?

Try...

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7  only works with a NON OEM licence.

A 3rd party site like…

www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/
microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-and-office-iso-download-tool

Try a recsue DVD?

@CF4:

* Pressing F11 (sound mute key) on start-up just makes it beep loudly and remains black screen, when you let go Windows is already loaded.  The Folio requires you to press Esc first, then F11 (Restore), but as I have already said that does not activate the Restore function but just proceeds with loading Windows.

* I cannot use any boot/recovery disks as you have suggested because the Folio has no disk drive.

* The links you have sent do not appear to go anywhere useful for me - is there anyone that knows specifically about the HP Folio 13-2000 that can assist me?

Hi

Still don't know what OS we are supposed to be helping with.

It is listed as W7 64 bit.

https://www.heidoc.net/php/Windows%20ISO%20Downloader.exe

Access HP Recovery Manager in either of the following ways:
Select   Start   >   All Programs  >
Security and Protection   >   HP Recovery Manager  >
HP  Recovery Manager.

OR

Turn on or restart the computer, and then press  ESC while the “Press the ESC key for  Startup Menu”
message is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
Then, press  F11   while the  “F11 (System Recovery)” message is displayed on the screen.

There is no recovery manager on the Folio so I cannot run recovery manager.

I need someone to explain to me how I can re-build the laptop from scratch (as it would have been originally) without using recovery manager.  As stated above, the laptop has a Windows 7 64 bit licence on it, I have no driver/recovery media and HP cannot provide me with any recovery disks/USB media.  So I assume I need to start from scratch with a bootable USB stick (how do you make those?) and how do you re-build the PC from the ground up, which I assume would need to include formatting the HDD, installing the OS and locating & installing suitable drivers?  Surely there must be a good website somewhere that explains how this is done?

Hi

Find/Buy a windows 7 disk, find and write down the Licence key first.

Go to a 3rd party website like....

https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-iso-download-tool

https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/14-windows-7-direct-download-links

https://www.heidoc.net/php/Windows%20ISO%20Downloader.exe

If you have a NON OEM licence...

Install Windows 7, and then goto the HP site for your Device.

Most, maybe all, of the drivers are there, and you could download and keep them prior to the install.
