HP Laptop - 14-dk1022wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After failure doing factory reset with HP could recovery tool app,

I used windows media creation tool to boot up from USB to reinstall windows.

At the moment of installing windows , the laptop show 4 partition and 1 lost partition to ask me to install the current windows

I managed to reinstall windows 10 Version 21H2 (OS Build 19044.2130) on one of these partition

Name                                                        Total Size         Free Space    Type

Drive 0 Partition 1: SYSTEM               260.0 MB         203.0MB        System

Drive 0 Partition 2                                 16.0MB              16.0MB          MSR(Reserved)

Drive 0 Partition 3 : Windows             90.5GB              64.6GB           Primary                             (the current windows 10 installed in this partition)

Drive 0 Unallocated Space                   28.5GB              28.5GB

Drive 0  BUILDPART                                 ----                   -----                                                             (deleted this partition after installation)

Could someone help me out to manage all these partition and recover the lost partition that is around 20GB. This HP laptop model come with 128GB SSD for the spec.

Ok, I saw this feature posted, but I had never seen this it seems to me..
I would have to do some research, when the weather..
For the cloud recovery, I had done research, and found no solution to the problem encountered .. except the use of Microsoft media
I understand, that the new window can be a problem, but if it works normally under windows 10, maybe not worth taking the risk to start all over again, if no other choice
it's up to you, you could try, completely formatting the system disk, and performing a new installation of windows
Or, try before, with cloud recovery, on a completely formatted disk
I currently have no more ideas for this problem.
let me know what you decided, and if needed, but not tonight, I'll look into this windows setup menu

hi

can you provide a screenshot instead?
some partitions certainly cannot be modified, but I have a doubt about some here

for the unallocated partition, you will probably have to use specialized software
you can certainly create one from this one, but not merge it with the system partition under windows

sorry, i don't understand you anymore
you show me your partitions, so I assume you have windows installed, it seems to work if you can open disk management
now, you show me a windows installation process, why start over if already installed..
Your partitions, so it seems normal to me, you just have to merge the unallocated partition with the windows partition
as I said, you may not be able to do it directly under windows, it depends on certain conditions..
but you can do it with software, i did it a little while ago on my computer..
but be careful, don't be mistaken

Let me try to clear up things here chronologically

1.  used HP cloud recovery tool and try to factory reset the laptop. It created a USB boot disk.

2, boot from this disk and after 30 minutes reset failed and can'nt get into any system

3, create windows 10 media recovery USB disk from another window 10 laptop, it is a HP laptop with similar specs

4. boot from the media USB disk and installed windows 10 on the "broken" laptop, I have to choose one of 5 partitions to install this Windows from USB disk.

6.  It got me back to windows 10 but there is something new on the starting screen. you can choose between Windows 10/ Windows Setup

5. on the new functioning laptop, whenever restart the laptop, it shows me two options:

windows 10   ---- press enter and get into the seems working normal windows 10

window setup --- press enter and get into the screen shows "your laptop need to be repaired"

6 at this moment, I got a seems function windows 10 and some lost partition and disk space.

and start screen with 2 options to choose

I am still wondering why I can not use HP cloud recovery tool and get back everyting back like I first purchased the laptop.

I am very disappointed about HP factory reset function.

I should not deal with this problem if there is something called HP cloud recovery tool.

Everything started just because factory reset tool not working as advertised on HP website

If I knew this would happen, I would never try to factory reset this HP laptop and never purchase HP laptop.

I do not have the same problem with other brand laptop.

Thanks a LOT for all the advice my friend!

I have at least got a working laptop back.

I would leave as it is for now.

The lesson I learned here is trying to stay away from HP laptop just because user can't even perform a factory reset.
