My HP ENVY x360 has a blue screen System Restore asking for the Recovery Key ID. I can’t enter any letters?

Hi @Sulp5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Did the message specifically mention BitLocker Recovery Key or System Restore?
  • Are you seeing a field that only accepts numbers, or is it completely unresponsive to keyboard input?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try right away:

  • Numeric-only input: The Recovery Key ID usually accepts only numbers, not letters. If you’re trying to type letters, that may explain why it isn’t working.
  • Keyboard test: Try pressing the Num Lock key and use the number keys at the top of the keyboard instead of the numeric keypad.
  • External keyboard: If possible, connect a USB keyboard to rule out a hardware issue with the built-in keyboard.

 Recovery Key Access

  • If this is a BitLocker Recovery Key, it’s often stored in your Microsoft account. You can check by signing in on another device at Microsoft’s BitLocker Recovery Key page.

I hope this helps.
