Does anyone have a recovery disk for the notebook
HP ENVY x2 11-g060ez ?
Since the notebook became slower and slower I made the big mistake to install a brand new Microsoft Windows from DVD instead of doing through the recovery manager. Now, Windows runs perfectly well, but I cannot use the keyboard, nor the touch screen, nor WiFi nor any other of the included devices. I guess, if I had a recovery disk of a similar notebook I would be able to make mine working again.
HP does not sell recovery disks for my device anymore. (Windows 8.1, bought beginning of 2013)
Any help is most appreciated.
Klaus

You're very welcome, Klaus.
See if this works...manually install the wifi driver.
Go to the device manager. When the wifi adapter needs a driver, there will be a device labeled there as a Network Controller.
Click on that device, click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.
That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp64212.
Make sure the include subfolders box is checked and hopefully, the driver will install.

Hello Paul,
Thank you very much indeed for your excellent advice!
Actually, I had installed all drivers that were proposed from the web site: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-x2-11-g000/5296226/model/5327633?sku=C1W93E... but this was not satisfactory.
Now, after having installed all drivers from your list, most of the devices work fine, except Wifi. When installing sp64212.exe, an error message appears, saying that setup.exe does not work properly and is going to be closed - no further indications.
Best regards,
Klaus

Good morning, Paul,
You are a genius! The Wifi is back and works like a charm.
Actually, the device was indicated as "SDIO Device"; I could install the missing drive exactly the way you had described.
I would like to seize the opportunity for an additional question: Because I did not succeed in installing a fresh Windows 10 I had called the HP support here in Switzerland. First, they told me that software was not their business. However, they gave me the advice to install Windows 8.1 in the first place, because the system would automatically install the correct drivers, which was not the case after all. Now my questions are:
What is your suggestion? Should I upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 or should I install a fresh Windows 10 from the Microsoft website? Personally, I tend to the latter but this leads to the next question:
Will those drivers you had given me work with Windows 10, too?
I guess you are not working over the weekend. So, I will wait patiently for your precious reply.
Best regards,
Klaus

Hi, Klaus:
Glad the manual install worked for you, and thanks for letting me know the wifi adapter is labeled as a SDIO device on that platform. On most others it would be labeled as a Network Controller.
OK...here is my advice...
Give the free upgrade to W10 a try. If things don't work, you have 30 days to go back to W8.1 as long as you don't delete any files.
Click on the blue Update Now button at the link below to get the free upgrade to W10.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
There is no telling what the results will be, or if the W8.1 drivers will work unless you give it a try.
I don't work for or represent HP, so I am here volunteering my time and whatever help I can provide on any day of the week.
Here is how to go back to W8.1 if we can't get W10 to work on your notebook...

Hello again,
Thank you for your encouragement! I have made it.
How did I proceed? I have used Microsoft's "Media Creation Tool" to create a bootable USB drive. This worked quite flawlessly. Then I have changed the boot order and have followed the instructions given through the installation procedure. Unsurprisingly, I ended up with a system where none of the access devices worked. So, I have installed the drivers, for which you had given me the links. Again, I had to manually install the Wifi one. But as I already went through the whole procedure, this did not shock me.
Now I have a brand new, nicely working Windows 10 on my 32 bits machine. I owe you loads of thanks.
I am well aware that this fairly old notebook will not do it forever because it does not offer hardware upgrades, but at least for now we (you and I) have made a small contribution to sustainability.
Thank you once more!
Have a great Sunday.
Kindest regards,
Klaus

Anytime, Klaus.
Glad to have been of assistance, and I am very happy that you were able to upgrade your notebook to W10 and have everything working normally.
You enjoy the rest of your Sunday too!
Best Regards,
Paul

Hi Paul,
I wonder if you could give me another hint?
In the meantime, I completed the setup of the notebook. Except the speed, which certainly is what one can expect of a 32 bit machine, everything else works pretty well. However, I faced problems with Skype: I can hear the other voice but cannot transmit my speech. After further digging into the problem, it seems that the microphone is not working at all. I followed some instructions about how to test it in the system settings - sound section, but I cannot make the signal strength bar moving.
The microphone reads "Intel SST Audio Device (WDM)". It says the same thing for the speaker. Could it be that the drivers was not correctly installed?
It makes me wonder that the device manager still shows an exclamation mark for an SDIO device.
By the way, should I better open a new thread for this kind of question?
Thank you in advance for your precious help!
Best regards,
Klaus

Hi, Klaus:
What is the hardware ID for the generic SDIO Device?
